Thoracic Mobility: Finding Length

  • SOMA Movement Studio 112 South Main Street, Suite 100 Unionville, Connecticut, 06085 United States (map)

The Finding Length section of our Thoracic Mobility workshop series focuses on larger-range movement and learning how to use breath and rib motion to support strength, control, and mobility throughout the body. We’ll explore thoracic rotation, extension, side bending, and integrated movement patterns using the various props, Trapeze Table, Spine Corrector, and light resistance. Rather than simply stretching farther, the emphasis is on creating usable range of motion—learning how the rib cage, spine, shoulders, and pelvis work together as movement becomes more dynamic.

Breathing remains an important part of the workshop, but the focus shifts toward applying that rib-cage mobility during strengthening and whole-body movement.

Thoracic Mobility: Making Space and Finding Length workshops may be taken in either order. Making space places more emphasis on breathing mechanics and sensing rib movement; Finding Length places more emphasis on larger movement patterns, integration, and strength.

No previous Pilates experience is required.
